Christmas Lights in Cantenhede

December 10, 2025

Hi,

I feel like I haven’t talked enough about Cantanhede. I’ve waxed on about Montemor-o-Velho, which is a lovely town with a castle that I adore. But it seems that Cantanhede has not been mentioned because it does not have a castle. That’s not its fault, now is it? Cantanhede is a similar size to Montemor-o-Velho, with the same grocery store chains (Lidl, Continent, and InterMarche). But this is Cantanhede’s hour. Hear me out.

Last weekend, we were mixing up our routine and did our grocery shopping in Cantanhede as opposed to Montemor-o-Velho. No biggie, but it was time consuming (it is always time consuming, so don’t hold that against Cantenhede). So much so that when we were ready to head home, it was dark. Again, no biggie, since there are streetlights and we have headlights on our car. The biggie was noticing the lighted Christmas decorations all along the main street in the old-town area of Cantanhede.

The center square was lit up and had an ice-skating rink and various decorations (including a manger scene set on stones) so everything was festive and jolly. We had hoped to make it to a Christmas Market that weekend, but couldn’t get away. So we were happy to find the lights and did not hesitate to pull over. The dogs were thrilled!
