Hi,
We made it to a Christmas Market on Sunday. As it happened, the market was just down the road in Coimbra. Easy to get to, and very festive. Like all the Christmas Markets we’ve been to the past few years, there were food stalls, hand-made crafts stalls, along with a cured meats stall and a roasted nuts stall (our favorites!) There was even a live band playing Christmas songs.
In addition to having a good time at the market, I also enjoyed the walk to the market (it is the little things that make me smile). This Natal Mercado is nestled in the old town, in Praça do Comércio (6H5C+G5 Coimbra). We parked several blocks away and walked past centuries-old buildings lining narrow, pedestrian-only, cobblestone streets. Honestly, this ‘olde worlde’ charm did wonders for my mood. This is what I love to see; old towns with tidy streets filled with happy residents on their way to fulfill holiday traditions. It just doesn’t get any better than this.

Opal and Onyx were fine for a little while with walking on the streets without a blade of grass in sight. We had just walked them in the park by Rio Mondego, so they were good to be ‘urban dogs’ for an hour or two. And they weren’t the only dogs at the market. Sunday was a beautiful day, and there were quite a few people out with their dogs, enjoying the sights and the sounds of the market. It was a very pleasant day.
