Parque de São Roque

May 26, 2024

Hi,

Can you guess what day Monday is? Hint: Onyx will be catching up with Opal. Yep, Monday is Onyx’s birthday, and she will be four years old. Happy Birthday, Onyx! I hope this upcoming year is exciting and full of adventure and that both you and Opal enjoy yourselves to the fullest.

We are trying to get out more often now that the weather is so lovely. Friday, we dropped by Parque de São Roque in Porto and walked around about half of the park. We will definitely have to go back sometime to see the other half of the park because what we saw was beautiful. It’s a good-sized park (large, but not overwhelming) and we should have been able to see all of it, but I messed that up. My heart rhythm was off, and I couldn’t walk far. But I enjoyed what I was able to see, and so did Chris and the girls. Opal and Onyx were on short-leashes so you won’t see them much in the video, but I assure you that they were having a great time.

Parque de São Roque is extremely verdant despite being surrounded by the city. It has tons of trees and shaded paths interspersed with sun traps. We weren’t the only people there despite it being the middle of a week day, letting us know the park is a popular spot. Which it should be. There is a playground for children, a gazebo for lounging in, a miradouro where you can see out over Porto and to the Douro River, and several bridges that cross over the river that runs through it. And this was just in the area we saw. The other side of the park has a hedge maze and a large fountain in the Pátio das Camélias. When I am feeling better, we are definitely going back to see those!
