Miradouro Times Three

June 23, 2024

Hi,

This week we hit three miradouros that were all clustered in the same area, a suburb of Porto. These sites all overlooked villages instead of farmland, but they also had religious flair to them, so I have posted the pictures and videos under ‘Religious Sites’ in our Gallery.

The first we stopped at is Miradouro Monte Sao Miguel-o-Anjo (7F48+G3 Maia, Portugal). The church here is the smaller of the two we saw today, but it is quite charming. Even the statue of St. Michael stabbing Satan is quaint rather than gruesome.

Baloiço do Pilar (7HQF+W8 Penamaior, Portugal) was the second place we stopped. There is no church there, just a very tall statue of Jesus and the Estação de Radar N° 2 da Força Aérea Portuguesa. Yes, this miradouro is on the site of a military radar station. The miradouro is open to the public, you just need to obey the signs telling you to not cross the fence into the station. Easy-peasy, lemon-squeezy.

Miradouro da Assunção a Santo Tirso (8HG2+5Q, Couto (S. Miguel), Portugal) was the largest viewpoint we visited. The church was huge and had a picnic area on site, along with a café and a religious souvenirs shop. The church was undergoing construction renovation while we were there, but that was only on the front side. The back and sides of the church looked wonderful, and we could walk all the way around it without issue.

Because all these miradouros were so close together, we were able to see them all in one afternoon. The day was bright and sunny, and we all had a good time looking around. Please check out the videos we have for all these sites. They all answer to the name ‘miradouro’, but they are all their own individuals. And they were all beautiful.
