In Search of a Castle

February 2, 2024

Hi,

We finally got out of the house today. We’ve been lazy the past couple of weeks, but we dragged ourselves up and out to see what we could see.

Of course, we still had to do chores, like going to a government office to see about changing our address on our residency cards (we failed, but we will try again) and doing some grocery shopping. But we also decided to do something fun. We headed south of Porto to Santa Maria da Feiro and walked around the Castelo de Santa Maria da Feiro. It was an impressive castle, and the dogs were allowed inside. They loved it! So many stairs to climb and battlements to walk (all while staying as close to the edge as possible). By the time we left, they were well-worn-out. Especially because we had stopped at a dog park on our way there. It was one we had been to before, but it was worth visiting again (Parque Canino de Arcozelo). No other dogs were there while we were, which disappointed Opal, but it was the middle of the day on a weekday, so that was not unexpected.

So, as a break from our self-imposed isolation, today was quite lovely. Even as we left the house to head out, I knew it would be great. The lilies by our front stoop were in full bloom and the high today was forecasted to be around 70 degrees. Beautiful.

Nola
