Hi,

Hello to everyone, and Happy Birthday to Opal! She is four years old today. I keep trying to tell her how special today is, but she is taking it in stride. Opal is not much for fuss, even though she deserves it.

We had thought about going somewhere special for her birthday, but reality changed our plans. All this week we didn’t go far from home, due to doctor appointments, injuries, and ailments. Hopefully next week will be brighter and we can get the birthday girl to a wonderful place to explore. If not, we can always wait another week and take both birthday girls out somewhere nice. Just take things as they come, so to speak.

Even though we didn’t go anywhere special this week, we at least managed to get out to a few local parks. They are parks that are nearby, and the dogs love them. The weather has been lovely all week, so I cannot complain about anything. Beautiful sun, cool breezes, and dogs having a ball in the parks.

The first park is what we call our ‘fitness park’ (6926+8X Leça do Balio, Portugal). This park has a tennis court and exercise machines. It is only 300 meters from our house and is a great place to stop when we are heading out. The dogs have grown accustomed to stopping there before heading out on longer trips, and on sunny days there is no reason to disappoint them. Nor was there any reason to disappoint them when we were simply heading to the hospital or to the Farmaçia (Pharmacy) this week. It’s a new tradition, and it is no effort at all to keep the dogs happy (they are such good girls!)

Another trip this week involved going to the vet’s office to pick up flea and tick medicines for the girls. On the way back, we swung by a park in the village of Trofa to walk the girls and just enjoy the sunshine (8CPR+99 Trofa, Portugal). It was a largish city park with a chapel in the center of it. We didn’t walk around as much as we normally would have because my A-fib has been acting up recently, but we managed to see most of the park and the dogs managed to sniff a goodly sample of grass blades. And, Onyx was able to play fetch with Chris for a few minutes. Chris was also able to make a short of Onyx showing off her skills.

And the third park we went to was our old faithful Parque Urbano Sara Moreira (9G3Q+G6 Burgães, Portugal). We went out of our way to stop by this park because the dogs love the dog park there and we hadn’t been to a dog park in several days. They enjoy walking (on-leash) around people parks, but nothing compares with being off-leash at a park full of other dogs.

And that was it for this week. Stay tuned; hopefully we will be able to take an exciting trip next week and let you ride along with us.

Nola
