Breakfast

March 25, 2026

Hi,

This past weekend we set out on a mission to find a bar in a small town that serves a Full English Breakfast all day on Saturdays. Chris read about this miracle in a Reddit forum, and we both decided the half hour drive would be worth our effort. We were correct.

I love when our drives take us to the hills and mountains. Some folks love the beaches, but I am drawn to the hills. Ponte de Mucela is a small town in the hills east of us, and Chamy Café Bar (7R32+9J Friúmes) is on the main road through the town in a salmon-colored building. And this is the home of the breakfast that we drove 50km to eat. As I mentioned before, it was worth it. Not only were the eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, hashbrowns, mushrooms and tomato cooked perfectly, but the owners of the bar were extremely friendly and warmly welcomed us (all of us – including Opal).

After enjoying our food and talking with the owners, we finally got up and headed back to the car. Since we were already out and about, we decided to continue our journey through the hills and mountains. We set our sights for a few miradouros, and off we went. Along the road, we realized that just about every twist and turn revealed another beautiful view. So even though we only set out to see Miradouro do Vidual (34RQ+GV Vidual ) and Miradouro do Cabeça da Urra (23J2+R9G, 3320-229 Pampilhosa da Serra ) before heading home, we found much more.

Before we even left Ponte de Mucela, we snapped a few pictures.

Then there were some interesting rocks, so we got pictures of them.

And finally we arrived at the Miradouro do Vidual. This miradouro is on a rock that looms over a small chapel (a capela?) and has views of a lake below and the rocky mountains around it.

Miradouro do Cabeça da Urra was our last stop before hopping on the autostrada (Portugal’s equivalent of an interstate highway) and zipping back home.

It was nice to get out and have a day in the fresh air. Spring is here now, and there is promise of good weather and sunny days to come. It is still strange to be a family of three instead of four, but we have to keep keeping on.

Nola
