Hi,
I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine’s Day. Keep an eye out for discounted chocolates at the stores today. No sense wasting anything!
Also nonsensical is to not repeat things that you enjoy. Such as, visiting a castle you’ve already been to. Well, that we have already been to. We loved Castelo de Montemor-o-Velho the first time we visited, so we went back for seconds. Nothing had changed, but we did get different pictures (which are posted along with the earlier pictures in Photos – Archaeological Sites). As before, the girls had a great time, even though Chris climbed the parapets without them. In his defense, the walkway up there was very narrow so he decided it would be too risky for them. Thankfully, he didn’t stay up there long and the dogs gleefully welcomed him back.
Anyway, I don’t have much to say that I hadn’t already said about Montemor-o-Velho. It’s still the oldest and largest castle we’ve toured, and we had just as much fun as we had when we visited the first time. Plus, we have plans to go back again and walk the enclosure of the outer wall. Montemor-o-Velho has been added to several times over the years, including when the Knights Templar extended the protected acreage of the castle by building new walls. That is why there is the castle with a keep area, a wall around that, and a third wall that encompasses half of the hill the castle sits on. Honestly, seen from the road below (which we have posted pictures of in the past), the grounds are humongous!
The first two pictures below show the view from the castle to a road below. The following two show the castle from the road below (not zoomed and zoomed). The rest are just fun pictures taken inside the castle. More pictures are available in the Photos section of the website.
