This week, we are sharing a different kind of blog post. We want to highlight one of our favorite YouTube personalities, Sherpa the huskamute, the star of the Sherpa and Sherpa’s Day channels. These delightful YouTube channels documented the day-to-day adventures of Sherpa and his owner Jamie, showcasing their “van life” experiences across the UK and Europe. Even after they settled down in 2023 to provide Sherpa with a cozy home during his senior years, their popularity continued to grow. This loyal fanbase enabled Jamie to create several books and collectibles featuring the beloved Sherpa.

Unfortunately, Sherpa passed away last week at the age of thirteen. Over recent months, he had been experiencing increasing weakness in his back legs, making it difficult for him to enjoy his usual activities. Concerned about Sherpa’s health, Jamie took him to the vet, where they discovered several large masses on his liver and spleen. Faced with this devastating diagnosis and considering Sherpa’s declining quality of life, Jamie had to make the heart-wrenching decision to put Sherpa down. This is the decision every dog lover dreads, a painful but compassionate choice made out of a deep love and respect for our furry companions.

Jamie, we know you’re hurting. Please take comfort in the fact that you did everything right for Sherpa. You succeeded in giving Sherpa his best life, and it was obvious he loved you for it. Be proud of that success. We know it feels like he did way more for you than you did for him. But we are sure that Sherpa would say the reverse is true. And he would be quite vocal about it!
Be kind to yourself. Contemplating a life without Sherpa is overwhelming right now. You have a large community of supporters; continue to reach out to us for solace and support. Please continue to post videos, both old ones as well as updates on your status. Shared grief is more easily borne.
As we bid farewell to Sherpa, we are reminded of the profound impact our furry friends have on our lives. Sherpa’s adventures and the joy he brought to his audience will continue to inspire and bring smiles to faces around the world. We will cherish the memories, dote on Opal and Onyx even more, and honor Sherpa’s legacy by spreading the same love and kindness that he embodied. Thank you, Sherpa, for sharing your journey with us. You will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
