Medical Update

June 20, 2023

Hello,

Well, not much news, but at least I can answer a few questions.

So, as some of you know, Chris had an appointment last Thursday to talk to a cancer doctor. That wasn’t very helpful because that doctor wasn’t a surgeon. He was able to confirm (by looking at the colonoscopy report we gave him) that Chris does have cancer and needs to have it surgically removed. This resulted in blood work being drawn yesterday, a tomography taken (Chris says he thought the tomography was a CT scan), and an interview with a gastroenterology surgeon.

Just as a point of reference, I was not at any of these events. I went with Chris on Thursday but got sick this weekend and haven’t been out of bed until today. That’s not important, but just explains why I’m not exactly sure what happened yesterday.

Chris’s meeting with the surgeon went well. His blood work had zero cancer markers in it, which indicates that his tumor has not yet gotten out of the colon and into the other organs. The surgeon did not have the tomography/CT scan at the time of the meeting, but he says he thinks the surgery should go well and will present Chris’s case to the surgery board on Tuesday. However, Chris must also get an EKG this Friday because he has high blood pressure and the anesthesiology department requires EKGs for anyone with high BP before they knock them out.

Anyway, still more hoops to jump through, but everything seems to be moving along quickly. I’m hoping to recover from this cold/flu quickly and get to take us all on a road trip before the surgery is scheduled. But I will settle for just getting it over and done with.

So, this past week has not resulted in pretty pictures to send, but eventually I will post some more.

Later,
Nola
